Evening event
Translation, truth, and textual afterlives: an evening of transformation
Thursday 5 November at 18:30 – Register here
Dracula in Icelandic and Swedish. Shakespeare in the service of Romanian nation-building. Prismatic Jane Eyre. Join us for an evening of conversation about how translation changes everything and how translation has changed. As a process that navigates creativity, authority, the matter of ‘real originals’ and ‘authentic voices’, translation has often challenged and transformed ideas about textual truths. And where does a text’s truth lie, anyway?
Our speakers are Bianca Maria Alecu from the University of Bucharest; Matthew Reynolds from the University of Oxford; and Helen Zaltzman, broadcaster, writer, and producer of the linguistics podcast The Allusionist, in conversation with Daria Chernysheva from The Open University.
