Frequent questions

For general queries, you can get in touch with text-affects@open.ac.uk

Who counts as an author?

Refer to the ICMJE guidelines, Defining the Role of Authors and Contributors. These guidelines summarise the role of the author as follows:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  • Drafting the work or reviewing it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Can I use AI in carrying out research or writing down a contribution?

Yes, AI is not an author but a tool. As a rule of thumb, you can use all the tools you like as far as explicitly mentioned, where appropriate, and the output is carefully checked for errors and correctness. Human authors are responsible for all the work and content produced. For more information, please refer to the ICMJE guidelines Defining the Role of Authors and Contributors

Can I republish my work somewhere else?

Yes, the author retains all rights. However, you have to check the policy about the novelty of the work of your editor of choice.

Can I republish with Text Affects?

Yes, if you retain the copyright. However, the conference accepts only submissions of significantly original works (more than 30%).

Can I include copyrighted material in my work (such as images or extended quotes)?

It is your responsibility as an author to clear copyright for any material you choose to include in your work. For advice, please speak to a member of the Editorial Board.

Can I resubmit my work after changes if my work is unsuccessful after an initial peer review?

Sure, we just ask that you provide a cover letter explaining how you addressed the concerns of our community of reviewers and editors.
